We had the opportunity to ask Awoo founders, Francine Evans and Mallory MacDonald our burning questions as we welcome them into our pack!

Tate & Taylor: How did you the two of you meet?

Awoo: We met almost 10 years ago. We were both designers at the same company within the fashion industry. We initially bonded over our almost identical black rescue dogs and ongoing hunt for the best pet products.

T&T: What sparked the idea to start Awoo?

A: We quickly realized there was a gap in the market for products that matched our styles, lifestyles, and values. Our experience in design and manufacturing made the leap to creating modern, multifunctional, and eco-friendly pet essentials natural for us.

T&T: What problem are you trying to solve or innovate in the pet space?

A: We’re committed to redefining sustainability in the pet industry by creating stylish, functional products without compromising our planet. Sustainable design has become common within other markets like apparel and home goods, but the pet industry has been slower to adapt. Traditionally, eco-conscious pet products were limited to rugged outdoor gear. But what about the 1 million pet parents living in NYC alone?? While many brands now offer "eco-friendly" collections as if it’s a passing trend, Awoo is unique in building sustainability into our brand's core.

T&T: We love how your play products are eco-conscious, organic, plastic free and ethically made. What made you decide these parameters (among others) were important when making your products?

A: This was always a priority for us. Mallory's pup, Beatrix, had digestive issues as a puppy, leading us to focus on safe, digestible materials. Francine's dog, Bagheera, never wanted to play with traditional plastic or rubber dog toys BUT he instinctively loved the smell of natural fibers, inspiring our use of sheep’s wool.

Our experience in manufacturing gave us a unique perspective on material sourcing and production processes. We've witnessed firsthand the environmental and social impact of traditional practices in the fashion industry, prompting us to establish a higher standard for Awoo. Recognizing the pet industry's lack of stringent regulations, we’ve applied the same rigorous criteria we use for human products to create truly safe and sustainable pet essentials.

T&T: Why did you decide to join the Tate and Taylor pack?

A: Joining the Tate & Taylor pack was a no-brainer for us! Their commitment to showcasing female-owned brands, coupled with their dedication to providing a trustworthy platform for pet parents, perfectly aligns with Awoo's mission. We're thrilled to be part of a community that prioritizes both style and substance in pet care.

T&T: What are you most excited for?

A: New products! We’re designers at heart so we’re always excited to create something new and innovative for the Awoo pack!
